We are very lucky in Middlecott this term to welcome back Miss Foster-Turner and Mr Kaylor from Plymouth University. They are PGCE students and will be with us for 5 weeks.
Middlecott's Topic Takes Off!
This term, Middlecott's topic is India and it started with huge excitement as the class got ready for their flight to Bangalore! Everyone was issued with a passport and boarding pass and had to pass through security before being allowed to enter the departure lounge. Here, the children discussed their perception of India and had a think about which countries they might fly over. Then the time came to go to the gate. Here, the children boarded the 'plane' and found their seats. The teachers (in their flight attendant uniforms!) gave the in-flight safety demonstration and then take-off!! Here's to lots of interesting lessons learning about the country and culture of beautiful India.
We are thoroughly enjoying reading, performing and discussing poetry in English at the moment before writing our own next week. We have watched Michael Rosen and Benjamin Zephaniah perform some of their well-known poems and out current favourite is Chocolate Cake! You can watch it here...
Congratulations to Anna who has made it through to the next round of the BBC Radio 2's writing competition 500 Words!!!!! There were over 131,000 entries nationwide so this is an outstanding achievement!
We kicked off our new topic this term with a lego big build! The children were in two teams and were tasked with making a castle! It was lots of fun and we look forward to learning lots more about castles and medieval times over the next couple of months.
Please find below the medium term planning sheet for this term.
On Thursday 9th February, Middlecott children will be taking part in a handball festival at SDCC. Please ensure permission slips are back by Friday!
On Monday, Middlecott enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year! The children learnt the story of the Chinese Zodiac and how each year is represented by an animal. In the story, the Jade Emperor told the animals there would be a race and the first 12 to cross the fast-flowing river would have a year named after them. 2017 is the year of the rooster. The children then wrote their own versions of the story. They also had the opportunity to taste a variety of Chinese foods and find out how Chinese people celebrate the New Year.
Our Topic this Spring Term is Journey to the Far East. The children are all very excited to learn about the countries of China and Japan! Below you will find a copy of this term's planning overview.
